explorer electrical problem!

i have a 1996 explorer 4x4 and it wouldnt start so i had the alt tested and it was bad, so i purchased a new one and a new battery.got the new battery before the new alt and the old one drained my battery. but the battery lights still on and it doesnt run very long unless the battery is fully charged. i thought the only issue was the alternator but its obviously not. could anyone give me any other ideas as to what might be wrong? im not mechanicly inclined what so ever so im hoping someone on here has ran into the same problem with an older explorer and could help me out a little bit. thanks

Sounds like you got a bad alt...take it back and have it tested.

it seriously wouldnt suprise me if you got a bad alternator.....i went through 2 "genuine ford" and one aftermarket alternator before i got a good one for my escort.......just goes to show that some parts are not worth the price of factory.

yea i went through 3 from a boneyard that were bad and then bought a new one which i didnt have tested yet but will later today or tommarrow.
