1999 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi everybody My name is Aaron Im new to this forum, I have a problem with my recently aquired 1999 Ford explorer XLT 4.0 SOHC when my explorer shifts it hesitates then it violently jumps into gear and goes down the road. Then while going over 50 mph for an extended amount of time my O/D light starts flashing. But the light doesnt flash when driving around town (under 50 mph) please help me.

Get an OBDII code reader. Actron has a pocketscanner for 60 bucks at sears that works great.

See what the code says.

Then, after that, with the engine running, check the trans fluid level.

if all checks out good, disconnect the negative batttery terminal and wait 20 minutes then plug it back up. this resets the ECU.

GL hope it aint the end of your trans...

Resetting the ecu can cause more problems then you think.
You can lose learned perimeters.

Doesnt reset the ECU...resets the PCM. (Powertrain control module) ECU is Lexus...and thats the world I come from...lol

@ Dave: learning perimeters nothing, if the transmission isnt shifting right IMAO. I'd reset the ECU and see whats up after codes are pulled and researched.
