1998 ford explorer
Hi;
I am a new member with a problem with my recent addition of a 1998 explorer.
I changed the motor and now it refuses to send power to the starter motor solenoid. Is there a smart key set up on these vehicles? The usual suspects, inhib switch, relays,etc are ok.
Any advice would be welcome.

HI Rod, welcome to the site. If you post this in tech, someone may be able to help you out with your issue.

Welcome to the forum! The biggest issue with these vehicles when installing a different engine is all the ground straps have to be attached for everything to run correctly. There have been several people that just had to add a few body grounds and then they were all set.

electricity is like life, it has to make a full circle. Therefore grounds are just as important as power.

Thanks, I have all wiring connected, engine will start and run by shorting starter motor. All be it with low idle speed and a check engine light glowing. I replaced interior light and checked fuses, left ign on for 30 minutes, all to no avail.

when cranking with the key, does the THEFT light blink?

Hi;
Engine will not crank with key, Light goes off after app 10 seconds with ign. on. Scan says shift 1, shift 2, IAC malf.
