Hi everybody,

well, importing my Explorer for the States to my home country Germany has probably the most fun thing I have ever done. Besides the fact that Explorers are rarer than Ferraries F-40s over here :D, looking down at everybody else in their Fiat Puntos and what not at a stop light beats everything.
However, there is one point to this venture I didnt really consider. Getting parts for the Explorer here in Germany is a real biaaatch. If you are really lucky, one of the car parts stores might carry some parts for an Explorer, but if they do, they are so incredibly expensive, you just wanna start crying.
Like the other day, I went to a car parts store to check out prices for a set of new shocks, like the Monroe Reflex. So the guy at the counter starts looking the car up in his computer and tells me they are about 80 Euros a piece, meaning about 320 Euros a full set. I was like "Damn, those things better be the best there is" and asked him which ones they were. He tells me that they are the Monroe Sensatrac and that his computer doesnt even list the Reflex for the Explorer. I told him that I would think about it, left the store and started kicking the Fiat Punto that was parked next to my Explorer. :D .
I mean I can get the Reflex for like 40 to 50 Dollars a piece over in the States, right? I dont understand why even the Reflex are so expensive, given the fact that they are produced in France...
So now I am thinking about buying a set of shocks over in the US and having them shipped to me to Germany. I will probably pay a lot of custom fees and shipping charges, but I bet it will still be cheaper than buying them here in Germany...

What do you all think?

Take care

You've just discovered why there are not many explorers in Europe. As a UK explorer owner I had similar problems until I found a USA car part importer. Now I'm a happy bunny with cheap parts. There must be a USA parts importer in Germany (with so many service people there) just find them and be happy.
