A friend is interested in getting a Sport but is not sure if he wants 2 or 4 WD. I have an EB 4WD so I can not advise him about how the 2WD does on bad roads such as snow and ice. He has no plans to go off road so for him the 2WD might be fine. Can anyone give me an idea as to how well the 2WD does on snow and ice?

Thanks!!

Where does your friend live and what kind of driving experience does he have?

He lives in Maryland near Washington, DC. As far as I know he has never driven anything other than a midsize sedan/coupe and I would guess is an average street driver.

Around DC, he should be fine with 2wd. I am only 2 hours south, and haven't had any reason to put the X in 4wd on road in years. It is all a global warming thing. As far as being capable, there are members here that do serious off-roading with only 2wd. IMHO, 2wd is better gas mileage and less to go wrong. But that is just me.

EDIT: if he is around DC, he may want a V8 2wd..........those guys drive like cr*p around there!

As long as he knows how to drive in bad weather, 2wd will do just fine. A traction aid, such as the factory limited slip or an aftermarket unit, can help in low traction situations. However, a traction device can also make it easier to lose control if not driven properly.

That being said, my 2wd has taken me places most 4x4s never dream of going ;)
