Got a 93 explorer with some trans issues. My father left me plenty of manuals to reference such as haynes ford trans tech book, which i identified my trans as an AOD, even checked the factory sticker in the door jamb, Labeled the trans as T, so i'm pretty sure i have identified my trans correctly. The issue i'm having is starting in reverse, first, then the 1-2 shift. When i moved this from the previous owners place to mine, i put in roughly 12 quarts of ATF and attempted to hit the road. Noticed a bad leak from the trans seal, as well as a hard line leaking trans fluid on the front drivers side of the pan. I think this is for a vaccuum, but i cannot tell where it would go. To get it to shift i have to put the RPMS up to about 2500-3000, then let off and it slams in at about 2250, roughly in that area. Same thing for reverse and the 1-2 shift, Everything after that was smooth like a babys toosh, no slips or hard shifts nothing. but approx. 1.5 miles down the road when i pulled into my driveway, we were down about 8 quarts of ATF easy. The leak is bad, but does that explain the reverse, 1 and 1-2 shift problems? I'm just trying to get this fixed so my girlfriend can have a car for school. Anyone have any suggestions, or should i just rip the mother out and start the rebuild process?

Welcome to this forum! You have an A4LD transmission. Automatic transmissions rely upon hydraulic pressure to shift from one gear to another. Fix the leak, then see if you still have shifting issues.
