Exterior Trim A-Pillar Recall

I just went to my dealership about this recall on my Explorer and the air bag recall on my 2007 Mustang. They confirmed the air bags (both front) have been replaced and I have an "extended" Warranty on the airbags. As for the Explorer, the recall is for a "replace" not an inspection per my dealership, and they are unable to get the parts at this time. These side trim pieces are "notorious" for breaking when telling to remove them, that there are after market companies that made the replacements. Both the inner and outer trim pieces for both sides. This is the outstanding recall we have on our 4 Fords.

Has anyone gotten the windshield trim replaced by the dealership for the Recall? I called today and they do not have any in inventory. I was wondering if they replaced both the inner and outer or just the trim piece? I was told they do both sides. My passenger side windshield trim flew out today on the highway. I am going to call another dealership and see if they have any in stock.

I made my appointment today for tomorrow. They are sending the mobile tech to my place of employment.

Still on back order with no ETA, at least from AutoNation Ford in Katy, as of last week.

I just checked Levittown Ford and they don't indicate that the part isn't available. I added it to "My cart" and proceeded to "Checkout" before cancelling.
Are you looking to buy them or were you just checking availability?

When I bought my 2018 Sport "used", both of the outer A-Pillar pieces were loose at the top; however, it was because the dealership had the windshield replaced prior to putting it up for sale... and whoever did the work failed to reinstall the uppermost adhesive clip at the top of each side's piece... their shoddy work resulted in each of these two loose pieces sticking out away from the body at the top of the pillars.

However, I am ignoring the recall, as when this was first discovered by me, I simply ordered some more of the adhesive clips, and I did the repair myself (including putting the topmost ones in, that the windshield glass repairman didn't bother to replace)... and it's been holding tight against the pillar body ever since!

I called the dealership to see if they could do the recall yet.

You should still get the recall done. They should of replaced the A pillers when the windshield was replaced. They did on mine. And I am still doing the recall

My local dealership's service department REALLY sucks. Their regular M.O. is to let your car sit on their back lot for 3 days, before they even get to it... even for what I would consider "minor repairs" (such as this recall). Since my pillar appliques are still on nice and tight, and, I can't afford to do without my car for 3 days unnecessarily, I'm not going to worry about it right now.

Has anyone gotten the a pillar trim replaced under this recall yet?

No they are supposed to send a letter informing me when the local dealer has the parts to do it. Did you receive the original recall letter stating that? They were supposed to be mailed to everyone based on having a relevant model year explorer registered with their state's dept of motor vehicles.

I check my pillar trim every now and then... they're not the tiniest bit loose yet.

I did get the original letter. Mine aren't loose either but the weatherstrips are cracked in two and now the passenger one is sticking out.

Same, and mine vibrate at highway speed, so it's probably just a matter of time before the clips fail.

^ Maybe stuff a piece of material (rubber?) in as a shim to hold them still till the replacements are available? I wouldn't use an adhesive because that might be a problem when it comes time for the shop to replace them.

I wonder if they will replace them if the rubber is cracked but they are not loose?

Yes, the recall is to replace ALL of them, even if still fitting tight and with perfect rubber. However I am not sure that they will replace the rubber itself?

I don't get that from what I read. This is a line from the ford website. NHTSA Said the same thing.
"To have the A-pillar exterior trim inspected, and replaced, if necessary, you can book your appointment in the FordPass® App, online"

I don't trust Ford so I orded the A pillars from Amazon for $70.00 and the cover under the wipers for around $90.00 from Ebay. Both are better quality than Ford & fit great. Mine is a 2016 and everything was falling apart and I figured if I wait for Ford it might be a year before thay get the cheap parts in & I trust my install more. The side pillars are alittle tricky, but if you take your time it turns out better than factory

I think that rubber strip is an integral part to each trim piece and not replaceable.

Good to know that cowl piece is available for $90 delivered. IIRC, Ford parts stores wanted north of $300 for shipping alone on that part last year, and I just checked a moment ago and they still want over $200 shipping (+$214.50 part cost) today.

I'm so frustrated with this. Called the dealership and they said 'Ford has told us that they're not doing anything until the beginning of the year, so try calling us back then.' Sounded more like 'Yeah, we're not giving out free parts anymore, so call us back in 2 months so that we can tell you to call back in 6 months.' Unfortunately, my dealership is awful (Spikes Ford). The last time my Explorer was there, Service kept it for 6 months. I finally demanded to get it back, and when they drove it around to service, I kid you not: it was not washed and covered in 6 months worth of dirt, had a dent in the hood from where someone backed into it, and some of the pillar trims were missing. I rarely vent frustrations publicly, but when I saw that, my brain forgot to filter 'What is that? Are you f***ing kidding me?!' Even I was shocked that I said that aloud.

I've replaced it with 3 aftermarket options, and the 2 previous flew off on the interstate. The current one is held on with duct tape, which is beyond tacky. Thinking about just screwing the thing down to be done with it, or just biting the bullet and getting a new vehicle.

Is it possible to screw this down?
