Hey forum.
I have a 2000 Sport with the OHV with 220,000 miles (for clarification, I'll call this one "old"). It still runs kind of OK, but lots of little problems due to lack of maintenance due to years of no money. Now I'm thinking of getting rid of it. Rust is starting to take over. It has an aftermarket "Ford" alarm system, meaning it rolled off the assembly line with no alarm. When my ex-father in law bought it new, he had the dealer install an alarm (manly for the key fob door locks). The fob has Ford on it, but not like the kind that would come with a truck off the assembly line with the system installed.
I recently bought a 2000 4 door XLS with only 71,000 miles (for clarification, I'll call this one "new"). Rust free, OHV, 4WD and in good shape. Problem is that it doesn't have a remote alarm system. I doubt it came off the assembly line with one. When I bought it, the previous owner (a municipality) didn't have key fobs with it. Just the keys.
I also have a 2000 4 door XLS with 176,000 miles (for clarification, I'll call this one "middle"). Rust free, OHV, 4WD and in OK shape, that I'm using as my daily driver and it has the factory alarm system.
How hard is it (or is it even possible) to take whatever parts out of the Sport (old) and install them on the 71,000 XLS (new) to have the alarm system? I asked the 20 year old kid (service advisor) at the Ford dealership and he wasn't interested in investigating it. He had me buy a remote at the parts counter and tried to program the remote to the (new) Explorer. Obviously, it didn't work. When I asked about having an after market system put in, he told me to go to Best Buy. Being completely unimpressed, I thanked him and left. I did look up Best Buy's systems and everything is way more than I want (both price and features). I don't want remote start (something all system now have) and the fobs are huge. I just want to be able to have a small key fob that unlocks the doors. That's it.
I attached two pictures of the different fobs for reference.
