factory alarm help and 4x4 question

i recently bought a 96 explorer EB version 4WD 4.0 engine...
and i was wondering, did they come with a factory alarm? and if so where do i find it? also, is the truck supposed to do anything when you switch to 4x4? like make some kind of noise to tell you its on or feel something?
also i read there was some kind of recall about the cruise controll switches being bad? the one on this truck looks funny, and it actualy smoked on me just very briefly, like a resister went out, god i love that smell, lol ok so im weird, anyways do i just call the ford dealer and have them fix it? do they charge?

I just got the speed control system recall performed yesterday, its FREE, so do it soon.

4x4 light on the dash should come on, you may hear some grinding/clunking noises, hard turns will also make some noise sometimes.

Factory alarm depends on what you're specifically asking about. There is the PATSII system in the 96s I believe, so your key has a chip in it that will protect it from theft. As far as like honking horn/blinking lights, I don't think any explorers from those years had them from the factory.

yeah i'll be calling the ford place tomorrow to see about doing it, did they replace it or just disconnect it?
well when i switch the 4x4 on, the light comes on, but cant feel a clunk or noise, it was the same on my 91 explorer
i'll have to call them on the alarm too, i've read it comes with something, as well as had thoes little button things for your key chain, so who knows, would be nice tho

now, if i can only find an original rear view mirror it came with, not sure what kind it comes with tho, i know it has wires go into it as they are hanging down where it used to be

search the forum here, a lot of people part out their old or unused Ex's. and I'm pretty sure the sticky about keyless entry has something about alarms in it and tells where to find your door code.

oh yeah i know how to find the door code and whatnot, just need to figure if it has a real alarm on it or not lol yeah did lots of reading on the door code

96 did not have a chip key; think 99 was the first year.

They just run a jumper for the speed control recall. Call the dealership and give them your VIN they should be able to tell you if it's had it done. If it's smoking then I would say no, but it can catch on fire. Get it fixed. On the jumper there will probably be a tag that says "do not disconnect, blah blah something". Had mine done a month ago. Took 15 mins.
