Hey, guys

Anyone know how much space you have behind the panel where the factory amp is? I am looking at 2 Zapco amps that are 6"x2.5"x16", and I would just love it if they would fit back there.

Thanks,

i dont think both will fit back there without modifying the panel. in the world of car audio installation, anything can fit anywhere. you just have to find a way. maybe if you took some measurements and made an amp rack. then cut the panel where it needs trimming. you could make the rear panels fiberglass, and put plexi windows over the amps. you could even put neon behind them. it's all up to your imagination. i love doing installs like that.

BTW, excellent choice on the Zapco amps.

Hey, Leenjen

I like your ideas. My X is pretty much brand new, and it's still worth a whole lot of money, so I don't really want to modify the factory panels. You HAVE given me an idea, though...I bet I could get another of those panels, and just use the part that goes around the window! Schweet.

PS: The Zapco amps in question are:

Studio 204 (50x4)
Studio 300X (150x2)

They are both sitting at a local used-stuff (not pawn!) shop for around $500 CDN for both.

Zapco amps are great. and you found a great deal. there's lots of great deals on used stuff out there. once i bought a used Orion 12" HCCA subwoofer with ported box for $150. it was practically brand new, and sounded great.

I'm not sure about the exact sizes, but I managed to fit a fosgate 360a2 and a 250a2 behind the rear panel. What I did was make a fairly rough template of the space back there out of cardboard and then laid the amps on top of it to see if they would fit.

Well, I went and picked up the amps today. I'm now the proud father of a Studio 204 and a Studio 300X. Now I need to decide how to use that terribly large 300 on my sub. The amp is supposed to do 150 x 2 into a 4 ohm load, 300 x 2 into a 2ohm load, or 460 x 1 at 4 ohm mono. I have an a/d/s RS10 with dual 6-ohm voicecoils. The two ways I can think of to do this are:

approx. 100 x 2 at 6ohm stereo
or
approx. 550 x 1 at 3ohm mono

I have to admit...the a/d/s is supposed to be able to handle that much power, but it was expensive, so I'm scared :)

BTW...even if the amps don't fit behind the panel, they will fit side-by-side under the back seat, just like the install that is shown in the other thread...
