Hey, I'm doing two sterio mods on a 1991 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition, and a 1989 Mercury Sable GS, well to get down to the brass tacks, I want to use the factory amp from the Explorer to power a really cheap 6 1/2" sub in the Mercury with these specs ~200 w instantanious peak power ~40w RMS. I don't know if this is possible, but if anybody knows the specks on the factory amp for the Explorer (yes it has been bypassed and gutted from the Explorer in favor of a Jenson head unit already) It would be great if you could pass on the info. Thanx

Oh one more thing, there are two wireing harness connectors on this thing, that looks like this --- --- and this -- --
-------- ------
I know which ones are the speaker prongs, but I am left with the six prongs on top of the first connector and the two inside prongs on the secong connector, what are these for? And how would I wire the amp to the sub and a set of RCA input plugs?

the factory amp is crap. it doesnt have very clear anything and puts out around 15 watts

ok, well thats all I needed to know, thanks.

Actually the sub amp is 85 watts RMS into 8 ohms

The amp for the door speakers is 15 watts RMS x 4

So your speaker is about half the rating it needs to be and I bet it's 4 ohm and the amp won't like that either .... you can put an 8 ohm speaker on a 4 ohm amp but you can't put a 4 ohm speaker on an 8 ohm amp

Basically you'll toast that sub in no time

And forget about those "instantanious peak power" ratings, they are nothing but marketing BS and were shunned in the early 70's throughout the rest of the audio industry

well, the Explorer doesn't have a sub in it, nor did it ever at any given time, but thats ok because I beleive that if I were to hook up all four out channels from the amp and connect them all to the subs input I would utterly destroy the sub, besides trying to find a wiring code for the amp would be next to impossible, but thanks for all the help guys, you saved me from destroying a really crappy sub. :)
