just wondering if anyone knows where the factory amp is located in a 99 ex? also is their a way to replace the amp and install an aftermarket brand still using the factory wiring?

it should be located with the stock sub which is in the rear of the ex on the right when looking at the back

its a paaain to get out. once you get back there a few times you get used to it though ;) i would definatly not reccoment running the factory wiring. your new amp will be drawing and putting out alot more than the factory wiring was ever ment to accept. even if it is something like a 50x4, still alot more than stock.

For '98-present Explorers with Dual Media (Tape/CD) systems, the 4-channel amp is integrated into the receiver while the sub amp is located at the sub. Unlike the earlier Explorers ('91-'97), the amp is located at the passenger rear quarter panel where the sub/cubby hole is. Hope this will clarify everything up.
