I recently had my dad go pick up a factory bed cover for my 02. The guy said he didn't have the keys to it. I hadn't realized they were a special kind of cylinder. I thought it was just like a regular lock that would be used for a camper shell or bed cover.

I haven't taken a closer look yet as to what I need exactly. Is it 2 or 3 locks?

Am I able to purchase new locks for it or should I get locksmith to make me a set of keys for it?

A locksmith should be able to re-key the cylinder itself to match the ignition key. Pretty sure that’s what I had done for my 2003 Sport Trac when I bought it the tonneau cover back in 2010.

If it's like my 01 Sport Trac, ford doesn't sell the bed covers or lock cylinders just a repair or rebuild kit for it and it's over 100 dollars. If it's the factory cover it's 2 cylinders. Just a heads up they also do not sell the factory running boards if your's has them.

So I have no way of getting cylinders for it unless I spend $100? I bought the cover for $100 :shifty:

There’s only 1 lock :(

Yeah the dealer told me they didn't sell the cylinders just a repair kit for them and it was a little over 100 bucks. The Leonard camper top dealer told me they could probably come up with something that would work

My factory bed cover has a lock cylinder on the front half near the cab and one in the center at the rear near the tailgate.

Do you mean one of your two lock cylinders is missing? Like Terry said above, there are two locks on the tonneau cover.

As I was thinking about this a little more, you might be better off buying the entire assembly with the cables. While I was able to get the locks keyed the same as the ignition key, the cables to the latches always bound a little. It would unlock OK, but I usually had to manually mess with the latches to get them to catch when I shut the lid. I could never figure out how to lubricate the cables so that they would latch easily.

Here’s a link to the cylinder. You can use this part no. to look for better prices, but this one is all I found that says it’s available. 1L5Z-3543262-BA - Ford Parts Giant
Thanks for that information, but even though it looks right it's still over 100. bucks. Say's 68 something for one, but if it's the complete lock cylinder it might just be worth it.

You can disassemble the factory lock cylinders and rekey them. Remove them from the bed cover, pop off the stainless piece, depress the pins, turn it, pull the inner piece out a little, turn it a certain way, it'll pull out from the lock cylinder. Re arrange pins, reinstall.
