You will find lots of threads on this problem - do a search.

The only OEM looking ones have to be purchased from FORD, and as I recall they are expensive.

Lots of Chrome ones on ebay.

Many here just repaint them with some quick prep work and a rattle can of gloss black paint.

I need to do mine, too. PITA.

$600+/- from Ford installed. Expensive is right!

my 04 is still good.
But ask me again next year.

yea b/c i've yet to see a 04-05 explorer w/ faded/peeling clear.
I'm afraid of it happening to my pillar but they get waxed regularly (at least once ever 2 weeks)

My neighbor has an 04 with peeling panels... but it's a massive issue with 02 and 03. (jk) no 04 seen yet. :)

6 bills for a set, dayum. I heard that they were expensive but that's just nuts.

My '02s started to look funky about 2 years ago, and now look awful. Too late for wax to save them (I am not convinced that would have helped them).

This summer it's time for a 'rattle can' repair.

Anybody know how to remove them, or should I try to mask and spray in place?

Not really a big deal, just a tiny pain. I have had as bad on other expensive wheels. Now at 6+ years, 93K miles, and no major problems to date.

I wouldn't remove them...

**goes running to the garage to give them another coat of wax**
lol

oh u were jkin lmao

There's a write up that shows how to fix them on the vehicle... :)

My personal 05 has the paint starting to flake off to the primer.

Cool, I will check that out.

Also this summer, I am going to refresh the roof rack, running boards, and cowl plastic in order to restore that new car look. Gotta find the right paint for each application. I'm thinking the bumper black paint for the rubbery running boards, gloss for the pillars, and flat black for the cowl plastic and roof rack parts.

I doing the windshield wiper area... If I mess it up, you'll know. So far it seems okay.

I found mine easy enough to remove, although the metal clips that hold it on were rusted. Please tell me what kind of paint you used.

I'll give it a few days just to test wash and see how it works.... It's the Krylon black glossy.

i know i own a 04 but you guys should use some type of dressing on the plastic to avoid it from turning grey. Maybe its b/c i'm a freak when it comes with cleaning my truck but every spot on my truck either gets waxed or gets a coat of dressing.

We get too much sun, heat and the ocean doesn't help... It's raining off and on, so I got no real pic. Now, how about that shiny silver bezel :) Time to Krylonify it!!

I am a clean freak as well, but I think the sun and maybe the salt spray here have defeated my attempts to keep these pieces nice looking. Tell me, what dressing are you using?

i've fallen in love w/ the meguiars endurance tire dressing. Its gel and last even through driving in the rain.
