I have a '00 XLT with the Factory Premium system with Subwoofer. I was wondering if anyone knew who made the stereo system. I like the sound overall for a factory system. I think the only thing I would change is the door speakers to get a better high end. Bass wise it seem to crank pretty good.. Enough to shake the mirrors. It would seem the system has pletty of power. I was wondering what the thoughts were on this.

Thanks
Scott

The Mach Audio System in your new Explorer is manufactured by Visteon (formerly Ford Electronics Division). The head unit and Subwoofer amplifier are manufactured for Ford by Visteon.

The system is rated at 290 Watts Peak Power. The amplifier internal to the radio puts out 4X30W (with EQ) and a line-out to the Sub. The dedicated Subwoofer amp is rated at 1X170W.

Some people have reported good results changing the front door speakers - others have spent a lot of money without making any significant improvement. The door speakers themselves are 5.5"X7.5" in size - allowing the use of many aftermarket 5"x7", or 6"X8" (NOT 6"X9") sizes.

Your OEM front speakers include a 1.0" tweeter and a 4.0" midrange in a sealed enclosure.

That's really good info. Do you know the specifics about the headunit and amp on just the premium sound package on a 2000 XLT. I don't have the subwoofer if that helps. Or is it the same?
Thanks,
Rob

Some of the newer head units are made by pioneer. I have an 01, and similar or same stereos were used in the '00s... Is it the 6 disc changer??? If so, you have a pioneer.

If you really want to change something without too much trouble, get a component speaker system for the front. This will have tweeters and midrange with a cross over. Your sub will make up the base... I think you have enough power in the stock system without becoming a ghetto blaster. No need to go crazy on the system, but the tweeters will provide clean, crisp high frequency sound to help round out the system.

bigmellon & cobrajeff -

Would you know if the '00 Premium system with CD changer is prewired for a powered sub? I have that system and was looking into getting an MTX thunderform with amp and hook it up.

Are the speakers and the power output the same between the Premium system and MACH system? The only difference being the powered amp?
