1998 Explorer XLT
Well i have a 1998 explorer xlt. My stereo was working fine (all 4 speakers) and i made a noob mistake and cut the oem 16pin harness. I went to the salvage yard and got the exact same piece. Matched up the colors, Put butt connectors on the wires to ensure good connection. And when I hookd up my alpine deck only the front right and left rear speakers are working. Not only that when I turn it up even to half they crack and are all distorted. Any clue whats wrong? My expo had the stock cd player and amp in the back. Even when I plug the stock radio back in same problem only 2 speakers working, Cracking. Since I basically have the oem harness back in place what could have gone wrong? I did disconnect the battery when doin all my work. and I have the harness's that connect to the 2 oem harness that color match my alpine harness. Everything is connected right? Im lost

I don't know about your 98' but my 96 speakers suck. When any bass comes through them they distort. also, your speakers could be bad in the back? And Butt connectors are not the way to go, soldering is much better, and does not allow for moisture to get caught in it and start the ever dreaded corrosion.
