I put one of the factory "behind the seat" sub+amp things in my st, and I've been thinking about polyfilling the box and possibly replacing thhe sub with a kicker 6.5. However, after removing the 4 screws and the grille, the sub doesn't want to come out. It puts up a lot of resistance, and I don't want to pull too hard and break something. Is there something holding itt in from the back or anything? I couldn't get it to budge.

I took mine out a few years ago. There is a screw holding the sub into the box from behind. If i remember correctly I had to remove the whole box from behind the seat to be able to reach the screw behind the sub. I also tried putting in an aftermarket 6.5 and I never could get it to work correctly so make sure you do your research to get the right sub with the compatible electrical specs (ohms, wattage, etc) I eventually just bought a beneath the seat 10" box for $90 on eBay and a JL Audio sub and used the back of the seat for storage.

That factory amp wont power a Kicker 6.5. Thats even if you figure out how to wire the factory amp up to another sub. The amp has a different connection and doesnt run the same as a conventional one. Id just get an under seat box if I was you, you could buy mine this summer if you wanted :) Im fiberglassing a box behind the rear seat to hold 2 12s

I'm more than satisfied with the behind the seat sub, and I don't want to go below because I want to still be able to fold the seats down. What are the stats of the factory sub anyway? I could mount a different amp if I really want to go aftermarket I guess. Is it possible to run both of the factory sub systems at the same time? The behind the seat and the under the seat type? I wouldn't do it, I'm just curious.

I don't know about running both at the same time but i do know that the factory amp is pretty weak. I thought that the behind the seat sub had good power until mine blew, thats the only reason I replaced it with a below seat sub. You're right though because it takes away the functionality of folding your seats down. If you're that intent on keeping the sub behind the seat, many people have built boxes for subwoofers that fit behind the seat. I'm sure you could build a box for a small 8" or 10" that will fit back there. Hopefully those with these subs behind the seat will chime in with pictures.
