Hey guys - I'm a longtime forum member, but haven't posted in a looong while; Still driving around in my '95EB, running good with 182,000 on the clock.

Didn't think I'd still have her, but she's running good and I've put about $2,000 in her this year. Hoping to hang on to the truck another few years. That being said, I'm long overdue for a replacement subwoofer. The stock JBL sub took a dump about 2 years ago. Since the Ex isn't my primary vehicle, I never bothered to look for a solution. Turning the bass up results in a pretty crappy buzzing/blown woofer sound.

I've scoured the audio section here to find a solution; what I'd like to do is "simply" replace the subwoofer, and run it off of the existing factory amp that's back there. I've read that this is a common solution.

Is my sub a 6.5" speaker, in the 1995 Explorer? If so, what's the common replacement size? I'm thinking it is 8" - that's what I've read people tend to lean toward. Can the existing amp adequately power an 8" subwoofer, and can it be 'installed' into the existing factory JBL enclosure with some modest cutting/fabbing?

Keep in mind that I'm not looking to make a career out of this; heck, my headunit is the stock Ford/JBL Cassette deck. I'm really just looking to have the factory-quality sound back (which I was perfectly happy with) considering I tend on holding onto this vehicle for as long as I can. Any advice, links to already existing threads, pics, etc., would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

Bill
