rangers, explores, jeep tj, and cherokee's all use the same pattern they will design a rim that fits all of them without paying attention to the hub size aside from will it clear.

Partly true. Most popular rims will come in a variety of PCD (lug pattern if you like) and CB configurations. So they may be made with the largest CB for the range of cars they are targetting. But they also supply little plastic hub "cups" for applications where the CB is smaller. If you don't use these snug plastic hug cups on a an aftermarket set of wheels, and your CB is less than the rim's CB, then you are using the wheels as lug centric, not hub centric. To me, that's like using a headlight as a stop light - sure it puts out light, but the wrong kind.
