Also check to see if there is gasoline leaking from the Fuel Pressure Regulator into the vacuum line. This will make the engine run very rich.

If the engine runs "cold" it will run rich too. Make sure you have the OEM 192degree Tstat. a 185 is not good. It happened to me.

Thanks guys for your replys.
Tony H -Yes I have the right Tstat.
Bawana Bob -Regulator working fine
RangerX -Went through the usual suspects, still nothing.

Had 3 different mech look at this and non of them could figure it out.

Any one else have any ideas???

Three different mechanics and nothing??? What did they do? Has anyone pulled codes from the computer? What codes came up? You say the fuel pressure regulator is fine, but has anyone done a thoruogh fuel pressure test? Is it failing just barely out of tolerance (HC's a little high), or is it running so rich the cats are glowing red and it's belching black smoke?

MrShorty- Just failing. Codes have been pulled as far as I know- nada thing. Will have a guy pull codes again Monday. Don't know on fuel pressure test, will ask about that. Dose 92 have EGR and if so, where?? Would aftermarket headers make it fail??? They all want me to change back to standared exhaust headers.

Just failing. Is it just failing on HC, NOx, CO, or some combination?

Codes have been pulled as far as I know- nada thing.
Does this mean that the person pulling codes was unable to talk to the computer, or that the computer reported all pass codes?

'92 doesn't have an EGR system.

I don't know on the headers. I would expect if they did so consistently, enough people on here would know about it and say so.

If per chance there is an exhaust leak, then that could draw a little air into the exhaust stream, which increases the O2 content of the exhaust stream, which the O2 sensor picks up and richens the mixture a little. It may not be big enough to trigger a trouble code, but enough to throw the mixture off that little bit.
