I am replacing the water pump on my Explorer 2000 4.0L 6Cyl SOHC
I am still at the beginning of the process and I am trying to get the fan off.
I don't have a fan clutch tool so I intended to brake the nut loose with a 12" wrench but there was not enough room for it to fit on the nut, I had to take the 4 bolts off the water pump pulley. I also had to take the belt off to have more room to work. Now, the big nut will turn both clockwise and counter clockwise really easily and I don't know how to brake it loose. I was hoping to have holes on the water pump pulley to wedge a screwdriver in and get some leverage but there are none. I even stretched ratchet straps around it to hold it tight while trying to turn the nut but the whole unit still turns as soon as I put enough pressure on the wrench.
I simply do not know how to brake the nut loose, if you have any suggestions, they would most appreciated.
