Favorite 12 - System Advice

Okay, I am looking for a lot more bass from my current system.

I am interested in 2 - 12's. I like the way they sound, the depth, etc. I have looked around a bit and obviously there is a lot to choose from. I am looking for a i guess mid grade 12's. (120 -150 dollars each) What manufacture recomendations would you guys make??

Also with these 2 -12's how much power would you recommend running. Once again I have no idea. Is there a amp that you think is the best for two 12's like these. I don't need a top of the line, but not the cheapest either to power the subs. The amp price can be whatever needed because it would be really stupid to buy mid-grade subs and then a cheap amp.

So any input on which 12's and which amp and how much power would be greatly appreciated.

OH, and I have not done anything to my premium sound in my 2000 XLT. So I don't have pre-outs. So I think the amp would have to have a converter or something. Also comment on the quality of this kind of connection, is it worth doing or is it really nessecary to upgrade my headunit so I have the pre-outs.

you could go with earthquakes 12"'s but honestly....i would go for an single 15" like i got....less room since it only requires an 1.5 cu feet box....an dual 12" asks for 2.4 total

amp ?....something with alot of punch behind it...

800 watts rms for an dual 12" and about 500-600 rms for an single 15"


i love my earthquakes.....

ask the guys at wholesalesounds.com they will give you a nice price....i think the earthquakes will run you something about 190 with shipping....a piece that is...

Yeah, thanks for the advice, I was talking to my parents, and they commanded that I couldn't get two 12's. But they said 1 -12 was okay. So make the appropriate changes in my question because I still don't know what to get.

All you really need is 1 12" sub. The addition of 1 more sub will not make an enormous difference in volume. Also an amp to push 2 12's is a lot more than an amp for just one. There's a big difference in the price between a 300 watt amp and a 600 watt amp.

As for sub type, are you looking for SPL or SQ?? That makes a big difference in the type of sub you wanna get. SPL subs get really expensive where as the best SQ subs can be had for less than $250. Give us some more info and we'll help you out.

Check out a Cerwin Vega Stroker, a MMATS Juggernaut, or an Orion HCCA. These are king of SPL. These make the best single sub setups. One of these can be louder than a cheaper dual sub setup. I would recommend a 10 inch Orion HCCA in some kind of stealth box--But I'm not sure there is one that it will fit in because of the HUGE magnet structure.Spend the same on one sub as you normally would two and give them the amp you would a dual setup. The Juggernaut is very under rated for 1000 watts RMS. As far as SQ goes, the size of the interior of an explorer makes up for this....what I'm trying to say is they will sound good too.

Only a midgrade to cheap amp will have High level imputs. You will need a converter if you get a good amp--but then again there is no sense in putting a good amp on a stock head unit. I would recommend something from PPI (I didn't say Precision Power-PPI is their cheaper line) or Kenwood or something else in that price range. USAcoustics has some very good amps with a reasonable price too.

Crystal CMP. One of the best subs on the market. They take a ton of power though. Other good choices would be an Infinity Perfect or an IDQ, or a JL. It really depends on whether you are looking for more SQ or more SPL, how much power you will be driving it with, and how much you want to pay.

justin: PPI and precision power are the same thing, not different product lines. PPI stands for precision power inc.

Rob: i have 2 infinity perfect 12's and i love them. i'm pushin them with a ppi a600.2 bridged at 2 ohm which is plenty. this amp ran me 255+shipping off ebay. The infinity's and IDQ's are pretty similar in performance, and they both are great. if you still want 2 12's go for one of those.

also, get an amp that is stable to 1 or 2 ohm (mine isnt rated to to, but it hasnt over heated yet, knock on wood) and you will be able to run 2 subs with the same power to each as you would have had going to one.

there are a lot of options to consider. with almost any quality aftermarket amp, you will need rca's, so for a stock system it would require a line converter. but you'd be better off spending two hundred bucks or so and getting a new HU, as it will increase the quality of the signal a bit.

I got the Infinity Speakers already but still need a good amp that will push them to the limit. Dont wanna spend more than $300. What is the absolute BEST amp I can get on Ebay for that price range?

sideswipe: it depends on whats available at the time. i am a fan of ppi, and you can get an a600.2 for a pretty reasonable price on ebay. this amp is only stable to 4 ohm bridged, which doesnt work for two 4 ohm subs easily. however, i've been running mine at 2ohm for a while without problems. Its up to you if you want to take a chance or not. otherwise you might need to spend a little more

Lamah--PPI is a separate line of precision power. Their better amps say Precision Power while the lower end amps are listed as PPI. Yes PPI does stand for precision power inc. and many people call all of their products PPI, but like I said they are different lines. It would be kinda like Punch Power compared to Punch (both Fosgate)or Road thunder compared to Blue Thunder (both MTX).

with two 4 ohm subs you have two options for wireing, 2ohm if you wire in parrelel (which i recomend), and 8 ohm if you do it in series. finding an amp that would put out 700wrms @ 8ohm would be nearly impossible, it'd be much easiser to get one that does 700wrms @ 2ohm.

justin: xtant is there cheaper line from what i've heard.

All amps are 8 ohm stable. 8 ohms is a very high impedance. Car stereo is basically all based on 4 ohms with the exception of various subwoofers and a hand full of component speakers (Sound Stream SPL) which have impedance's of 2 ohms or lower.

With an 8 ohm load your amp will not deliver as much power as it would in a 2 or 4 ohm setup.

i have tested the highest model of

Power acoustics : Fahrenheit series and that thing kicks, it's over rated but it sure gets some power down to an dual 12" or an 15"....it also got 4 gauge wire hook-ups and 8 gauge speaker wire hookups, wich i definatly like about these amps.....

another one i really like but will cost you some more money is the Fusion AMP, like i said they are higher but less over rated then most amps are....

as far as subs go i have to highly recommend the kenwoods. they can be had for less the 75 bucks apiece and are very sensative, meaning they dont require alot of power for alot of sound. with one kenwood 12 i was able to put out 138.6 db and thats with a 200watt jensen amp the whole system set me back about 100 bucks and people were always like "what! thats only one twelve?". be carefull thouhg cause bass is addictive if your anything like me youll need 2 eventually and then youll need 4. where does it end?
