Feet are on fire

I have a 1997 Explorer XLT with the SOHC V6. The problem I am having is the extreme heat that is coming from under the dash right next to my right foot (gas pedal). I am getting this heat even with all of the HVAC controls turned to the off position.

Is this a blend door problem or could it be something else? I can't even think about driving with sandals on.

The heater valve is supposed to close when you turn off the hvac system, so the blend door shouldn't affect anything (there's not hot coolant running through the heater core. Turn off the hvac system and see if the hoses going into the heater core get hot, or you could have someone turn the hvac on/off and see if the heater valve moves.

I would say blend door stuck open. Until you fix it, disconnect the hot coolant valve mechanism (under hood, passenger side) and shut it off by hand (that's what I did two summers ago).

I would say it's hot air flow since it seems to be coming from a concentrated area.

I fixed the problem yesterday; I tried to locate the valve you have in the picture but, couldn't find it. What I did find was a grayish line running up along the AC box on the firewall. The line had a rubber hose attached to it but, it wasn't connected to anything. I looked inside the rubber hose and saw a gray piece of plastic like a fitting had broken off inside. I looked for that fitting but, found another grayish line coming from the water pump area (at least it looked like that area) and it was disconnected as well. I figured they should be connected so I removed the broken pieces from inside the rubber hose and made the connection; voila, no more frying feet!!

not all ex's have a heater control valve. Ford eliminated it on certain years. on the years w/out it, the heater box controls whether you get heat or not. that broken gray line must go to the heater box and control a door.
