Guys I know this has been played into the ground on the first gen but I'm gonna play it again. I have seen a few pics on this forum site and the flares that I'm talking about and want look like a factory flare and in the pics I've seen their on four door models. The back flare has a cut out for the rear door and a separate piece that goes on the rear door that makes it look like one big flare. Where and how can these be bought?

Most likely the sport model flares... I have a set I have yet to install/ trim to fit on my 4dr. As far as I know the explorer sport was the only one that had fender flares on the 91-94's...... unless the EB or limited models had some?

I'm going to post some pics of what I'm talking about as soon as I can. They really look good and actually look factory. Maybe they are sport flares but I don't know.

1st gen sport does have a flare package that wraps across the rocker panels. They do an admirable job of collecting road salt and hiding the resulting corrosion until it starts peeking out over the flares. I am in the middle of rust repair now, and I think the Exp looks better without them. The flares do not add substancially to the wheel well, and the rocker panel part is absolutely useless, other than for promoting rust.

Anyway, mine, the 2 door sport, has a front flare piece, and then a connector part from the back of the front flare to the part that runs on the rocker panels. The rocker panel part connects directly to the back flare.

I will say in advance that the parts I am removing are too rough to bother with. 17 years of Northern Minnesota will do that to parts, metal or plastic.

Thanks guys! but I know the ones I'm looking for and they're the old Bushwacker 21907-11 flares and i cant seem to put my hand on a set any where. any help would be a Big Help in locating some.

idk if still need help but online u can find 2 inch but r very hard to find, i got 3 inch for mine which i found from a guy on craigslist, spent almost 3 months searchin to find em, very hard to find bc they stop makin em

I have a set of 2000 X fender flares off of a 4 door on my 92 X. I cut the rear to match my body panel. I drilled holes in my body and they look great. I got them from the junk yard and paid a whopping $57.00. I will post more pictures in the A.M.

Here are a few more pictures of my 92 X with the fender flares. I did have to remove the side molding due to the flares fitting to the body.

So your flares are off a 4 door 2000 X? Hmmm.... looks fairly easy.

I have a set from a Gen 1 sport that I've been trying to figure out in my head how to mount on my 92 4 door.

Yup off of a 2000 X. I took one off at the junk yard and matched it to a 92 X and liked how they fit so I took them off and the rest is history. You will have to drill holes in your body for them to fit. I like how they look and the the price was right too.

Hmm thanks for the idea... I might have to steal it (the idea) if you don't mind.

I took my side (door) molding off for a cleaner look.

Wasn't there holes from the lower molding when you removed it?

I see you have a custom bumper so the lower fender got trimmed regardless.

That's what this forum is all about helping Fellow X'ers. I just wish I would of taken more detailed pictured and posted them. Remember the 2000 X had the flares with the side steps. I did not take the side steps. I cut off the part that mounted to the side steps because I plan on installing my sliders soon.

My wife has an 01 Durango and has the factory "steps". We've talked about removing them and leaving the flares. I think it looks good w/o the steps.

So having a set of 00 X flares w/o steps wouldn't look any different in my mind.

The lower molding (the old chrome/ rubber near the bumper) before you installed your tire carrier bumper was there holes for the old molding?

I am asking this to figure out will I have holes to fill.

There were holes, the chrome and moulding have nuts on the inside of the body. I liked the way a few X's on the forum looked with the clean cut so i did it to mine as well.
