Im looking into getting a KKM intake in the next few months for my 1993 Explorer because one of the screws is crossthreaded very badly and the other won't go in because the hole is stripped. I've just got a few questions that have been on my mind about it:

1) For those of you who have a KKM in Arizona, have you passed emissions with it still on? Once I take off the stock airbox, I don't think it will be good enough to reuse again.

2) Underhood temperatures. Here in AZ, temperatures can reach 110 outside of the engine. Is it still safe to use even though the underhood temps are even higher?

3) Is it easy to install?

1) You should still pass. If there are any questions get a K&N filter sticker (which are 50 state legal) and put it on your KKM.

2) You'll be fine. On really hot days you may lose a little power off idle, but above 15-20 mph a closed or open airbox doesn't matter.

3) Very easy. If you can use a screwdriver, you can install it.

i can answer 1 of them yes its easy to install. as far as the high temps i dont think it will matter but im not sure.

Thanks much. I'm already using a K&N drop-in filter, which came with a sticker, so I guess I should be fine.

and there ya have it all 3 answered before i could answer 1 get it you wont regret it

I disagree unfortunately, the KKM draws hot air from the engine bay and on hot days it is VERY noticable and I am not kidding. It's so bad that I am looking into trashing the whole set up and going back to stock.

I suggest, since you live in Arizona and it is hot there a lot to stay with what you have.

I have the KKM, so I speak from experience, not speculation.

Might a heat shield work?

Try insulated cold air box, by then you've spent more than you want for the hassle.

id dig up the thread if I wasnt on dial up here, but there was a great thread on an HD F150 board doing air temp tests with a factory box vs open filter on the supercharged truck. Once the engine was heat soaked, it required 40+mph to equal ambient air temps. Really I guess it just depends on if you think more warm air is better than less cold air.

hey, im in phx, az and i got the kkm like 4 months ago, when it was nice outside, but anyways, i feel i have more power right now than back then. My truck is running a lot better, well it seems that way. i say get it!
