Ok so i went and purchased a alpine head unit to install in the suv and when i go to install it i try 3 diffrent types of harness'es and none of them fit, so i go to an audio warehouse and they tell me that in order for me to have a non stock head unit in the suv that i have to pay them 80 bucks to make a connector from the amp to the head unit inorder for everything to work, i have never done anything towards audio in this car and in my last car it was just plug-n-play, so can anyone tell me exactly how to do this process.

it is true. If you have a stock amp in the vehicle, you would need to rerun a new set of wires from the stock amp to the new head unit. I did it myself. Took about 60-75 minutes of my own time.

You can buy a pre-made harness for around $15 at Wal-Mart.

You will have to remove the right rear interior panel, the upper bolt for the seat belt (torx bit reqiured) the step plate & right kick panel.

You will also need an antenna wire extesion as it runs to the external amp along with the the speaker harness.

It's plug and play, but with quite a bit of extra effort. The last JBL/Premium stereo I worked on I just ended up running new speaker wire to each door and junking the entire factory amp/sub amp/sub setup.
