Well my 3 month search is finally over, I found an overhead console for $37.00, so life is good.

It had one blown wire, which I fixed and I just plugged it in for a short test, and it works perfectly (except the temp, because the Explorer didn't have the sensor).

So now I have to buy the mounting bracket, and stick it in my '93 Sport, so wish me luck. :)

Ah crap, now I have to put mine back in.....

Congrats, Quick.

quick......you've found 2. I called the junkyard today here in vegas for you. They've got one. They did say it was in bad shape though, and wanted more than you payed....but you would of had one.

Congrats!!!!! :)

Good job Quick! And for 37 bucks, man that's a sweet deal.
Now if I can only have some luck and find one myself. I saw you have a 93 and you said you'd need a mounting bracket. I have a 95 and was told that I may already have the mounting holes in the roof for the console already. Does anyone know if this is true?? I sure hope it is, cause it will make installing it a whole lot easier. (If I ever find one, a gray one).

Hey leebo, thanks for the effort.. that means a lot.

Yeah, I think the wiring is up there (though I took the wiring for the junk yard) but I need to mount it.

It is going to be scary cutting into my head liner, but it has to be done. :)

I'm not sure Stephen, but I think so. I've heard both yes and no from various Ford places.

I'm sure it does, it would only make sense to expedite the assembly process. It'll probably be that way on your 93 too, that was the first year of the Limited and it had one.

The console is from an Explorer 95+, so I'm hoping somehow it will fit.

I doubt very much that the 95+ console is the same as 91-94 consoles, or maybe I am wrong. This is going to be interesting to try to fit it up there. Unfortunally I couldn't find a 93-94 console.. but again this was $37 and fully works (tested it out) so I will have my struggle.

So I guess you don't want mine then? Are you going to try and wire up a thermo sensor?

I was thinking the same thing. To make the assembly go faster, Ford would just make one roof for all the trucks with or without roof consoles. At least that's what I'm hoping for. I want to find out before I cut into the headliner. Do you all think that the headliner could be pulled down a bit to see. Maybe by taking the trim panels from around the windsheild and doors?? Try to pull it down enough to see up there. Whatcha think?

2001, do you have a console for sale?

Here's a tip from MattAdams. I've never done it, but he said it works. All that's holding the headliner up is the screws on the visor. Pull those few screws off and the front part of the headliner should drop down abit. Give it a shot.

To take down the headliner, all you do is pull off the holders on both sides of the car. Then you have to unscrew the visers and take them down. Then just pull gently on the headliner (be sure to pull gently, or you will rip it. I found this out when I was taking the overhead console out of the Explorer in the junkyard).

I'm not sure how it is held up, but I'm pretty sure it is held up via little white plastic holders. It should be but back up in reverse order.

Exactly the same console, its unchanged from 93-01

Thanks for the tips about the headliner guys. As soon as I can find a console, I'll go ahead and try to see if I have the holes already. No sense in ripping the truck apart if I don't find a console. Hopefully I'll find one, cause that would be a good time to buy the radar detector I've been wanting and wire it up. Thanks again.

Well I took a knife to my headliner today, and cut a few holes to check things out and it seems the place where the front of the console snaps in is there, but not sure about the back. One the console I have it has a "lip" where it looks like it holds it up, but my truck doesn't seem to have a place to insert this lip.

Also, none of the wiring is there from what I can see.

So it looks like I might have a problem getting the lip to hook up there.

If anyone has any advice for me, I would love to hear some. :)

Thanks.. :)

No problem 2001, I was thinking it was inside joke and I was just on the outside. It's cool. I'll just continue my search. Thanks anyway.

After I install my console, I'm planning on making a write up about it and the installation process to help people install theres. :)
