1996 Explorer XLT 4x4
Good day all....
I'm a proud owner of a very well kept 1996 Explorer XLT which I've owned for roughly 18 years. It has gone through the wifie mobile stage, first car stage for the my son and daughters and it's now finally mine to do as I please.
My first inclination is to lift it slightly about 2 - 3 inches, tires, snorkel, lights, cargo basket, skid plates, upgrade sounds and possibly do something with the paint. Well, that's my fantasy list.
First, however, I'll need a new set of tires coming up very soon, but I don't want to lock myself into another set of cruising tires, clean her up, fix the little bits and call it a day.....I want to lift her now before I get bored and get rig of her.
I have every tool, shop lift and expertise available to me. I've swapped a few engines in my time, specifically, I pulled and replaced the timing chain, water pump, and resealed everything imaginable and few other odds and ins on this specific vehicle. So, she runs like a top, oh, just did a complete brake job on her just three weeks ago.
So, looking for advice on what, where I should look for a not so outlandish lift kit and tires. Something that can get me through some mud, a few feet of water, rocks, etc. Along with wider tires.
Any advice would be great because I've been looking around the web and it seems as if 96 explorers lift or leveling kits are rear or crazy expensive.
HELP!!!!!
