93 EB EXPLORER. LEARNING
Hello! I am new to the fourms and this is my second ford I have owned. I need a 4x4 rig other than my nice truck ;)

It is an EB. 4.0L.

My automatic went out (exploder!) and I am going to do a manual swap. motors and trans are out.

how can i find what transmission is in my 1993 ford explorer, and what manual one would work? Do they make one with lower gearing ratio vs the gas saver?

I will be continue searching but thought I would also say hey since I am new.

heres the rig:

Day I bought it for 500 bucks

The stock automatic transmission is an A4LD, and a stock replacement manual 5-speed would be a M5OD. Any 91-98 Explorer transmission attached to an OHV V6 will work, though it might be easiest to get one from another 93-94 model year, since later models had slight changes.

The later versions of the M5OD did have a slightly lower 1st gear, and they do bolt up to the 93-94 motor, so you can get one of those if you want. If you search hard enough, you can still even find them brand new if you're willing to shell out the money.

Whatever you get, make sure you replace the entire clutch/pressure plate with new parts, and the same with the master/slave hydraulic cylinders. The best slave cylinder to get is the OE part from Ford. Probably a good idea to use a new flywheel and pilot bearing as well.

Thank you, I am learning. That was great information to my brain.
