Firestone Destination AT's VS. Yok Geolander AT's

I am looking at replacing my stock sized Yok Geolanders with a 31" tire. I have been very happy with the Yoks as they perform great in wet weather and OUTSTANDING in the snow. My only complaint is the lower MPG the Yoks give my truck and going up to a 31 in the same brand will just make it worse. They also get very loud as they age.

The Firestones are lighter and look to have a better tread pattern for MPG but am mostly concerned about snow traction. I have read the reviews on tirerack but would like the opinions of the forum members who have used either, better yet, those that have used both. The reviews are mixed on the snow traction.

Is everyone scared to even talk about Firestones anymore? They have to be the safest tires now. LOL.

Anyone use the Destinations? Anyone know of someone that uses the Destinations?

A friend just put Yokohama Geolander AT's on his F-150. They are 32's and look great, I guess time will tell on the wear. I had 31 inch Firestone Destination AT's and they did well for me. I like the look of the Yok's better and they balanced out real well for a 32. If it was me I would do the Yok's, hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I realy do like my Yoks as far as off-road is concerned and wear has been good too. How did the Destinations handle the snow?

I have the Destination MTs and I love them. Yes they are a little noisy but they have handled everything well including snow. The tread wear has been pretty good. The firestone dealer here has bent over backwards for me on a couple of different occations. I bought those Walmart mudders and they were defective. Firestone gave me the Destinations for the same price as the Walmart tires(485.00). A year later I ran into the manager at Wendys and he asked me how the tires were doing. I told him my front allignment was out and the front tires had bad ware. He ended up giving me 2 new tires for 142 bucks TOTAL! You could barely tell the new tire from the old if you were just looking at the tread. I drive around 15 to 20K a year. My only problem was with the tread chunking off(Little pieces) in a couple of places after some wheelin. With 33's I had one trip where I got around 18mpg based on GPS. I think I still get betwen 13 and 15 in the city. They are the same tread compound as the Duellers. My buddy has a set of duellers that have been on his truck for over 5 years. I know its not the same tire you are talking about but in the same family. Also look at the Dueller Revo. It has gotten pretty good reviews. A couple were not happy but a lot of people love them. I just had a set of Destination ATs put on about 500 miles ago. I know thats not very many miles, but we just had a few inches of snow today and they did great. It was a wet slick snow and I didn't slide around at all. They ride real well too. They're stock 235/75 15 but they were only $388 installed. So far I'm happy with them.

I dont think I want a MT but that is some good customer service. I would venture to say that would be dealer rather than Firestone though... Funny, I read about firestones chunking off the edges on the TIRERACK.

388 is a great price! Did you notice a change in your mpg or is it about the same. Let me know how it handles the deep stuff.

I had bridgestone dueler A/T revo's on my last BII and they were great in snow and sand (that is all I ever had them in). They are the best A/T tires in my opinion but they are expensive. I have firestone destination A/T's now and they are almost as good as the revo's. I haven't heard anything too great about the Yok's.

Thanks for the great info folks. I drive this thing on the Pismo dunes regularly and take it to the snow about twice a year. The Yoks did very well and have been the best AT tire so far. From what I have been hearing I believe I will give the Firestones a try in the 31" size. I like the fact that they are lighter weight, have a better highway tread, and are much quieter than the Geolanders. I figure going with 31" Destinations will compensate for having a slightly less aggressive tread while minimizing any decrease in fuel economy compared to going larger with the Geolanders.

I have a 30 mpg supercharged GM product that gets out of its own way for that. Just dont need to waste any extra gas on a pooly designed tire.

LOL so is my wife. If you have never ridden in a VR6 powered VW it will suprise you. Its a little rocket.
