Firestone Replacements Stink!

Hello Everyone,

I have a question. Ford replaced my Firestones Wilderness ATs with Goodyear Wrangler RTs. My truck went from a great, smooth ride to magic fingers gone wild at the Motel 6. What can I do? My dog gets car sick now. I already had an alignment & rotation. These tires stink!!

Man, I love your analogy!! LMAO!!!

Anyway, about the ride, maybe you should check the tire pressure. Maybe it's up a little too high from when the tire guys put them on. But be careful about going too low on the pressure. Low pressure may help soften the ride, but too low will wear the tires out fast.

The Goodyears may also have a stiffer sidewall that doesn't give as much as the old Firestones did. If that is the case, and the pressure is not too high, then you might be stuck with the ride.

Interesting...I also just had mine replaced with the Goodyears and my wife's first comment was, it rides just like it did when we picked it up from the dealer 4 years ago (the dealer had put 80psi in the driver rear, 35 in the pass rear, 55 in the driver front, and 60 in the pass front of our brand new Explorer with Wilderness tires - the dealership owner was rather upset when I told him about this issue). Luckily I noticed this as soon as we got home. Needless to say, the new Goodyears ride quite a bit rougherthan the Firestones did, but I am getting used to it (I am still thinking of changing the shocks though...).

I believe there was a thread on the goodyear rt/s before. To me they are harsh and noisy. Mine kinda remind me of that time I rode with Fred Flinstone...

It cant hurt to open your mouth to the ford dealer and complain... maybe they can do something for you... im sure if you make a big enough stink and complain enough, they will do something. Look, my GF's granfather has a 94 cadillac that is well out of warrenty. a couple of months ago he noticed the leather on his armrest was cracked, so he went back to the dealer to get it replaced, but he didnt want to pay for it. Im telling you, he gave these people such a hard time they just replaced it for free to get rid of him.. If you piss em off enough, they will prob do something.

I really liked my Goodyears when I had them. I agree that you should check the pressure. 35 is a good pressure for city and highway, 30 is good for rough roads, and 20 is good for offroad.
