2018 Explorer XLT 3.5 V6
2018 Explorer V6 two wheel drive XLT. We ordered it and got it July 27th. My wife drives it 90% of the time. We are both retired professional drivers. My wife drove a school bus for 27 years and I drove an 18 wheeler for 28 years. That was after building Ford's for 10.5 years. We only have 400 miles on it. First run of the day she says it shifts firm, some times hard. after a few minutes when it warms up it shifts smooth. It won't start shifting hard again until it cools over night.
I m sure its to soon to change the trans fluid and it only started doing this about the last 50 miles. So is this the nature of the beast or does it need a trip to the dealer?

Not the nature but I would wait till you hit 1,000 miles to break it in fully and let the trans learn your driving habits. If it is still doing it after 1k, bring it in and make sure they keep it overnight or drop it off at night for them to look at when they open the next day.

The last Owner's Manual to mention adaptive transmission relearn was the 2015 Manual. No subsequent Manual has mentioned anything about the transmission in regards to replacing or disconnecting that battery. One member says it still applies but I'd think there would be some reference to that in the later Manuals. It does mention other electronically controls/systems.

Did you ever get this resolved?

Yes, we took it to the dealer and they fixed it. Didn't ask what they did to fix it. We bought an extended warranty out to seven years. I,m waiting for the all electric explorer.

Usually, the repair or any work done is shown on the invoice.
