Hi,

Sorry for not searching for this properly. Today is the last day on my 3/36 warranty (2004 E/B, 4.0, 4x4 30,000K). I planned on purchasing ESP but didn't realize it would be $2,500. I'm not sure if I want to buy it or not...

I have one intermittent problem. I dont drive the vehicle but on trips and to church as it is my wife's daily driver but occasionally it will feel as it has a transmission issue. Most reproducable event is with cruise control on at highway speed, hit a bump and it will shudder and loose power, cutting out lightly as if it were a vehicle speed sensor issue or something. I hit the brakes, bring it back up to speed and it will be fine for a while. Sometimes it will also get this light feeling in town (without using cruise control) but it's pretty rare but I'm worried a bit about the transmission.

Is this a common issue? If so what is it. I'm sure Ford will not be able to reproduce it today and I'll probably buy the warranty.

Thanks in advance, sorry so long...
Rick

Outta curiosity, does your Explorer have AdvanceTrac traction control? Mine did this a couple times when hitting a bump large enough to get some rear wheel hop, and when the system detected more rear wheel speed than front wheel speed, it engaged the AdvanceTrac, limiting the power, and engaging the transfer case. It felt similar to what you've described.

With that low of mileage, I seriously doubt there's anything wrong with it. Just one of those little wierd glitches that happens once in a while.

Welcome to the site.

Glad to see someone else from TN join up

It sounds exactly like the type of thing Cornburner suggested. the traction control is seeing a loss of traction, in which case it kicks out of cruise.
