figured id make this my first post.

i just got a 1994 ford explorer limited, appears to have every available option, except maybe sunroof, not sure if that was a factory option in 94 or not.

anyway i bought it in hopes of reselling it, but today i drove it around alittle, and noticed the headlights WONT go off, i tried everything i could think of, the only way i can get the headlights off is to unhook the battery, and hook it back up, they go out until i key the ignition again then they come back on and wont go out till the battery is unhooked again.

if anyone has some suggestions id like to know, im only asking $1800 for this nice explorer limited, i fear i wont get that much out of it if i dont get this issue fixed.

Lights wont go off until i unhook the battery, stay off when hooked back up

ive got a 1994 explorer limited, drove it about 1/2 mile today and noticed that when i turned it off the headlights/taillights/instrument lights did not go off, i unhooked the battery, and hooked it back up and they were still off, turned the ignition key to the "on" position and the lights came back on and wouldnt go off till i unhooked the battery again.

any idea's of what to look for would be great, i really need to get this fixed asap.

ive gotta sell this explorer to get my other fixed (headgasket job)

im begging.

Sounds like a sticking headlight relay. Check your owners manual for the exact location, but it should be in the power junction box under the hood.

Merged your two threads.

Welcome to Explorer Forum! That truck should sell fine for that price one you get this issue worked out.

Well, this morning the explorer worked fine, like nothing had happened, not sure what the problem was, i looked under the hood at the power box for the headlight relay, i couldnt find it, however partsamerica does sell the headlight relay so its just a matter of where its at so i can replace it.

thanks for the help so far.

Now i need to get my cousin to join, he's got a 02 explorer 4.0L that ran fine yesterday but today he said it just sputtered and shook alot, im guessing its a coil, a plug wire, or plug itself, but i dont know enough about fords ignition systems to do much.
