2006 Ford Explorer
Just bought my first used 2006 Explorer and working through some Explorer issues. One is a coolant leak on the top of the engine (had the thermostat housing replaced, still seeing fluid) and the other is the message center not working (locked up on oil maintenance required). The message will not reset, even if you used a hammer on it. Really like the Explorer, but want to fix the problems, so I can enjoy it all that much more. Being a "shade tree" mechanic, I enjoy working on cars and would appreciate any insight that you can provide into anything I can do to fix the problem, or is it a Ford dealer solution? :salute:

If you really want to be cheap, look into the additives that you can put in the cooling system to stop leaks. If its only a minor leak. For the message not going away... maybe the reset switch is bad. In that case, you will need to replace all three of the onboard computer switches as they come as one assy ($101.73 from the dealer.) Test the switch first with a multimeter. I dont have my manuals with me right now otherwise i would be able to tell you the correct reading for the switch. but try asking the dealership.

Thanks for the ideas. Will try one more time to seal the leak, before going to the stop leak sealant. Had not thought about the switches being bad. Good idea, I will check that out next. Thanks.
