Ok, just changed my PCV valve for the first time. I used a Puralator brand PCV valve. The hose didn't seem to fit as tight over the new one as it did over the original Motocraft one(YES I bought the correct style!). What are the ways to KNOW if it pops off? What could/would happen if it did pop off? I'm not even sure of its purpose totally...Pressure Control Valve...right?

Dave,

PCV - Positive Crankcase Ventilation.
Valve gets rid ogf the pressure that builds in the engine from combustion blowby. So a malfunctioning valve or PCV system(leaking valve covers for instance) could cause buildup of sludge, poor ring seal, loss of power.

If the hose falls off (unlikely) you would have a vacuum leak, and the truck will run poorly, bad idle. If its loose put a small clamp on the hose, the spring clamp from the factory may have "sprung" so a screw type clamp would end your worries.

I have a 91 XLT 4X4. I bought a PCV vavle about six months ago but it is still sitting in the box.

Where is the PCV valve located on the truck. I have looked after reading some posts on the board but still am dumbfounded and a little embarrassed because something like this should not be that hard.

Some one please let me know.

Brian

PCV valve pushes into the driverside valvecover at the rear of the engine, has a short "L" shaped hose leading to it from the upper intake.

hope that helps

I found mine pretty quickly after looking in the owner's manual. Look up "engine" in the index, should find a page with a picture looking down on the engine that shows were certain things are such as the PCV valve! But it's exactly were steve said, might have to lift some other hose to find it!

Oh yeah...thanks a bunch Steve...that's exactly what I needed to know man!

When I bought mine... there was an "extra" part on the PCV... so when I was looking around for it... I couldnt match it up to anything... I eventually figured it out though... and if I remmeber right, It did fit kind of loosely...
