hello everyone. Greetings from the Northwest......So back when I was 18, I got a 92 Explorer as a grad gift. I ####iing loved that thing. going camping, 4wheeling (mostly light trails and such) and donuts in the snow...stupid things that a young person typically does. Anyway, I ended up crashing the car and the engine has a blown headgaasket (I believe, its been sitting for a year and theres been no compression test done). Since my dealership recently merged with Hummer and Chevy..I've had the pleasure of driving around H3's everywhere and it really reminds me of my X and makes me want to go fix it and take it to some trails.

But heres my problem. I don't know whether I should fix the car and drive it (cheap body panels, poss fiberglass or something and used 4.0 or maybe 5.0) or just sell it and get something else. I'm into fast cars and, but I'm thinking something like an SUV would be a bit more practical for someone like me, as a I like doing a lot of outdoor activities and need the extra space for random ****. Sorry for the long post but its been a long time since I've been on here and need some help. If any of you could point me in a direction to possibly get my X on the road again and not spending a ****load of money it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

J

Get a 2nd Gen 5.0, you won't regret it.

or you can do what i did.. get a 2nd gen v8 and put a used 4.0L in your first gen.. im actually debating selling my 97 to buy a newer impreza, something easier on gas.. but i hafta keep my 93, its the first vehicle i paid for myself, got it when i was 20? blew the motor, it sat for a while.. finally got my butt in gear and found a low priced used 4.0L for cheap and im glad i got it running again. brings back memories. well that and i dont owe anything on it and its not my primary driver i can just take it out and have fun.

IMO fix your explorer. if for nothin else to get more money out of it when you sell it. lol

Depends on how bad the crash damage is and what else would need to be done to the engine along with the head gaskets. If it's just minor crash damage to bumpers and panels, just rip off the damaged panels and either replace or use fiberglass flared fenders, and buy or fab up tube bumpers or something. A blown head gasket is a good excuse to get in there and clean up the engine while you're at it, and add in some performance parts as well. It'll take some time and some money, but if theres nothing really wrong with it, you're better off fixing it up. Even though it's a lot simpler to just buy something that's all ready to go, you might regret getting rid of a nice ride that has extra value attached to it since it was a gift.
