Ignore the wrench still wedged in there. I welded a steel bar onto the end of the motor shaft. Welded a beefy spring onto the end of the now extended motor shaft to make a twenty or so degree bend, another steel bar through the frame and a handle to turn the whole works. All the way one way gives me 4wd low, all the way the other gives me 2wd high. Which is all i need really. I can't get 4wd high because I don't know where to stop in between and i think the computer is shot so the indicators on the dash don't work any more.

Trick Way To Shift But Dangerous.

That's a trick way to solve the problem of the shift but punching holes in a frame that appears to have so much body cancer may hurry the inevitable failure of same. Could be a dangerous fix.

Yeah the body is falling apart, but the frame is in very good shape. Before i drilled I took a wire wheel to the frame to see how much of it was rust. It just had surface rust. No flaking what so ever. My use of it is light duty. 4wd to get out of my snow drifted driveway. The bigger tires smooth out the ride on back country roads. I don't haul a trailer or put heavy stuff in the back (other than an occasional tiller). So a 5/16" hole in the frame doesn't bother me. It only needs to last me another year or two anyway.
