I have the rims from my ex and i really like the style, however i have seen that the stock rims have a defective clear coat that rots and peels over time. this has virtually ruined the rims. I am running backspaced jeep rims right now and they suck, they rub the frame in back, and i can barely turn.

does anybody know how to fix this? would the chrome duplicolor fix it? what about painting them black?

any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

the problem is you will need to remove the coating before you either re-clear coat them or paint them black. I had a similar problem on a 85 mustang GT and ended up removing the clear and using a polishing wheel to polish them. It took forever, but was worth the effort in the end.

you may want to look into some of the newer products that can remove the coating and then decide on either a replacement coating, or polishing them.

Just be careful what you use in aluminum.

would sand blasting be an option to remove the clear coat?

Depends on the grain of the sand, you could probably use a really fine sand, but might be better off using a different media. Theres a product that will remove the finish from the wheels, its called Aircraft Remover, it works really well, just be careful when using, gloves and atleast a mask to prevent inhaling all the odors and in a very well ventilated area.

por-15 actually makes a clear coat fix for rims.
