That rig looks really nice.

Where did the hood come from?

AMERIHOOD TYPE-E STYLE FUNCTIONAL RAM AIR HOOD

company in LA makes them, you can buy it on ebay

Me likey.

Really like that hood! The entire rig looks great including the flares. More pictures of hood if possible, thanks.

Damm,

They don't make one for my 98 XLT.

I really like that hood!

keep checking with them, you never know if they start making a few for it, they started making this one for the sport trac about a year ago, i was certainly surprised a new part would come out for a vehicle this old.

Will do.

Swampghost that hood looks smoking! Thanks for the pictures and they show just how well the lines in the hood match up to the front end of your Sport Trac.
Just one quick question, some people say an after market fiberglass hood takes a lot of preparation work before they are really ready to be painted. I am talking about prep time to take out waviness before painting. Your hood looks great but I'm curious how your experience was. Thanks again.:)

wet sand and paint, no extra prep work

That is very good news about the no extra prep work. I remember seeing others talking about this hood here first on this forum. Since no one in over a year never mentioned getting one, I mistakenly assumed the quality might not be that good. Once again yours looks great and I'm seriously thinking about getting one.
:chug:

Wow, it was 2 years ago that I first read about this hood. I now realize that I should had considered this hood earlier!

NEW hood option available! MUST SEE !!

Hey everyone, been a while since I posted, but I found what I believe is a new hood option for us. This will also apply to the facelifted Explorer Sport (2 door) since the body and mechanical are the same from the windshield forward.

This is a Fiberglass hood, from Amerihood. Amerihood is a child company of AIT racing. Doing some research on this company brought up good reviews, from multiple sites.
Click the links for pics. Sorry, not sure how to post.
Amerihood® FEPL01AHTEFHW2 - E Style Functional Ram Air Fiberglass Hood (Unpainted)

The hood vents are open, and direct air to the airbox area, so if you have an open air filter, it will get a charge of cold air. alternatively, the hood extractors are open in the rear, so it appears that you will vent some hot air out as well.
I did find this video of the hood interesting;

Please note, that I am in no way, shape or form working for the company, or endorsed by them.
I was just excited that I found this new hood. I did find them reasonably priced online in Ebay.
I searched for;
2002 Explorer Sport Fiberglass

I should have the money to buy one in like 2-3 months. will update once bought and installed. If someone were to boy one and try it before I do, please do post what your findings were!

Old thread but looking for a set of flares like everyone else but as an alternative looking for someone near by that has a set that I could 3D scan or mould from.
Chances are the sets are so rare that a used set is easy to miss but maybe can be reproduced.
