Flashing O/D light on 1998 Explorer

My explorer was running fine until yesterday. I started to drive it and the O/D light was flashing and the tranny did not shift properly, rpm was high and I could not go over 45 mph.

Any ideas

You have a transmission fault. Grab a code reader and find out what the fault codes are, or take to a parts store/dealer that will read them for you.
