Hi there! I'm new here (this is my first post!), and I did do a search to see if this has been covered and didn't find anything, so apologies if there's an existing topic.

I've had my Limited for about 2 weeks now, and so far so good with most things. The MFT has rebooted twice and fails to find my iPhone occasionally.. but other than that no real complaints.

Except for this one: I've gone grocery shopping twice, put my bags in the very back cargo area, and both times I've yanked the "floor filler", which is attached to the backside of the liftgate cavity on the bottom edge, completely out when removing my bags.

I've read the manual, and it says to remove the floor filler by turning the two knobs counterclockwise, etc. I don't have two knobs.. this thing clips in via a tab system. It sticks out over the cargo area by about 2 inches, and I can't for the life of me figure out why they would install something there that falls out so easily.

I guess my questions are these; do I really need this thing and if so what am I doing wrong here, and I'm also curious if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum, i assume that this is behind the 3rd seat. If it is, i don't have this and based on that i will say its not needed.

I took off that plastic part and threw it in my basement. Useless piece of plastic in my opinion.

Welcome to the forum! Behind the 3rd row in the hole area, don't have that either, just the floor cover for the spare, nothing falling out of the back.

A picture would help a lot. I don't know of anything on MY2012 that would fill the gap between the 3rd row and the edge of the tailgate.

I know what you're talking about Katness - I says "Remove for Spare Tire" or something like that on top of it. I have the same problem catching it and pulling it out. My guess is that the third row seats rest on this for support when in the stowed position.

You are correct that it attaches via plastic tabs. The owner's manual refers to removing the wing nut that holds the spare tire in place which is below the carpeted floor panel. I didn't see anything about two knobs...

Had the same issue with mine and even put it on upside down which held up for a little while. It is now somewhere on the floor in my garage.

Same here. Tossing mine in the trash tonight. It just will not stick...

It is a 'filler' piece that fills the gap when the 3rd row seats are down (folded). I don't really have a problem with it since those seats are always down and I have the cargo mat covering the seats. But that piece is not held in place very tightly. REMOVE FOR SPARE TIRE is written on it.

Thanks for the responses.. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's had this problem. The photo that peterk9 posted is exactly the part I was referring to.

Here's the reference in the manual.. complete with arrows that point to the non-existent knobs.

Ha...and here I am thinking the I somehow loosened the "tabs" cause i hit it with the stroller a lot, because it pops off so easily now. I typically carry the stroller in the standing position behind the 3rd row with the seats in the normal position. Everytime I got to take the stroller out the wheel of the stroller bumps that piece and it falls off.....if everyone is just removing it, then I will to. I just hate having missing pieces.

I have two versions of the manual (electronic) and neither state anything about two knobs. Thanks for posting that. Did that come from a printed manual? Here is what mine say:
If the 3rd row seat is stowed in the floor, you will need to unstow it
(raised position) to access the spare tire and jack. Refer to Unstowing
the third row seat in the Seating and Safety Restraints chapter for this
procedure.
1. Remove the floor filler and
carpeted floor panel located in the
rear of the vehicle.
2. Remove the wing nut that secures
the spare tire by turning it
counterclockwise.
3. Lift and remove the spare tire
from the spare tire well.

And the image of the floor filler only has a single arrow pointing to the center of it.
Strange!
