Prayers Answered!

I just found the Post. Mdrut caught me by surprise with an Email stating that there was going to be a Fl. X-Run! I was just in the Invernes area a couple of months ago--there are places to have fun. Best time was in a DEEP Wash that I had to pull the side-view mirror in to keep it from being pulled off on the ground (WAY LEANING) and the ridge that the observers stood on was at Roof-Hieght. I'll let you know for sure if I can make it in a couple of days. I'm planning on having my two front tires delivered and maybe my "Zimmerman" spring mods done by then...
PS JYong's X is comming along just fine.

hmmm.Another 5+ lifted..Damn, I see a superlift in my future. Hey Jeremy, might have a 2" for sale by the end of summer..lol;)

Awsome 2" and 33's

I ran 33x9.5 BFGs for three years. That was an awsome set up! It just doesn't corner like it used to with the 8" lift. HA!

Rocky,
I gotta see this rig of yours! I've got the 5.5" lift in the garage awaiting to be installed (and for the rest of the funds to do tires, gears, etc...)

You've got your truck about to the point I would like to get to...

Jon

Thanks Rock I'd like to see some pics of your rig.

I have to let you know of a mud hole I went to this past weekend. It was an old lake that didn't have any water left in it.There had to be at least 10 or more tractor trucks out there. Most had 2 1/2 ton running gears in them and one had 5 ton running gears in it.Someone had a red dodge truck with regular monster truck tires.Everyone was getting stuck. It was up around hwy50 and 41.

Mud Drags

Don't they have Mud Drags on 41? Maybe 52 & 41? There's really no place left to run, everything in my area has built up. However, there is a place by the Gulfview Mall and Centrialia & US19 but they're both dried up. As a matter of fact, the last 3 time I've been out there hasn't been any mud (Don't we live in Fl?). I've only seen one other X lifted up and that was down in StPete. Jon, do you have the extended radious arms with your lift? I would have saved a lot of money if I had bought everything (lift, R/A, steering) as a kit. I never learn--I would have save $100+ if I had bought my last tires all at ounce (kick myself).

Rock

Mud drags thats land o lakes mud drags. This place was private land with about a 5 acre lake bottom to play in.The tractor trucks didn't even get to the middle. If they open it back up I'll let you know.

How do the boggers do on the X.Have you broke anything yet.

Rock,
Yeah - I've got the extended arms. Right now I need to pick up some shocks, brake lines and spring perches for the rear. Tramp (the Explorer) is pissed that I haven't done the cosmetic surgery yet... I have a very vain explorer... :) Hates to be the "little dog"

Jon

Nothing wrong with being the little dog, just think of how many times you would have had to stand your whip back up if you had been any taller, and think about the higher cener of gravity on the butt pucker part of trail 11, and think about the upper body damage you would have receiced while threading the needle that got the nerf..Sometimes, being the little dog has it's advantages..;)

Finished my Zimmerman Mod today

The tail of my X was drag-n with all the stuff riding on the rear. So, I installed a Ranger main leaf to bring things back up. However, now I have all this droop potential but the stock shocks are limiting it--IT's ALWAYS SOMETHING! J; I haven't went trail riding with the Boggers yet. I think as long as I'm conservitive with the gas the Dana 35 should hang in there.
PS Don't be concerned about being the "Little Guy" it's all a process. When each of us get done modifying our X's it will be time to buy something new. Ha! Don't let our wives hear that.

Rocky,
I have the next mod for your ttb...
skip the solid axle swap. You can replace the axle shafts with ones from a D44 TTB. Of course you will end up with 5/5.5 bolt pattern. but that's ok. The D44 shafts work with the existing knuckles, so the swap isn't all that bad. Granted - you don't get the travel of a solid axle, but the strength will be there. There isn't a lot of difference in ring and pinion size between the two. The weekness is in the shafts...

And I'm not worried about being the little dog - Tramp is ;)

BTW - I just keep reminding her/him (Tramp) that there is this disease all little dogs have - they already think they're the big dog!

Jon

Dana 44 stuff

Jon; are you saying that the Spindle, hubs, rotors, etc from a D44 will bolt onto the D35 knuckle or that the 44 knuckles and all will bolt on to the 35 axle? I would love to have the 5x51/2 and bigger wheel bearings. Then I could purchase WARN's rear 8.8 full floater kit. :smoke:

Rocky,
Here is the thread...
Dead Link Removed

The spindles and knuckles appear to be interchangeable.

BTW - what is a full floater kit? What advantage is there to having one?

Jon

Just returned from the forest, ran trail 16 and 13 and stopped by the pit..NO MUD..The sand is damp, but no mud or standing water yet..

Operative word... "yet"

The rain down here has been about 20 miles inland - should be breaking through any day now. i bet we get a couple good downpours before we go camping (I hope)

We need to make some soup up there!

Jon

Hey Jon, made it thru the sqeeze without a shovel..Had Anthony with me..when we came out the other side, he crawled up out of the floor and said.."Daddy, I'm ready to go home now.." LOL..If you shift to the right, coming over the hump, you get some really nice air under the front..lol

Warn Full Floater

Jon; a Full Floating axle carries all the wieght of the vehicle on spindles and bearings(like what is on the front axle of a 4x4) not on the axle shaft. All the Heavy Duty 3/4&1 ton trucks have F/F axles in the rear. The benefits for a FourWheeler lie in the fact that if an axle shaft breaks the wheel and tire will not collapes (on nonF/F axles the wheel is supported by the axle)disabling the vehicle. Warn has a kit that puts spindles and a locking hub on the rear plus new axle shafts that replace the old ones. Only problem is that the hub is so large that you have to use a 5x5.5 bolt pattern and when I inquired to Warn about a kit to change the front to match the rear they didn't have one. Jon, I read the thread and cant wait to see if it can be done.

Richloam 6" last weeks

FlatLanders 4WD club reports that there has been over 6" of rain there and it should be wet. Is the ride still going to happen next week? I'm getting set up now for the ride. I'll probly head out on Friday morning and get some camping in also. Let me know of any changes to the schedule.
