Hi guys,

I would like to put a flowmster 40 on my explorer iwth a 4.0 sohc and was wondering how loud of difference this would be over stock exhauts. I was goingt to run a y pipe into the muffler and then just use stock tail pipe with a tip on it. Would this also help my power and fuel economy? I know there are several threads on the whole exhaust topic, but has anyone ever done something similar to this?

Thanks.

I have a Flowmaster 40 series on my Explorer. Its quiet a bit louder then stock! If your commuting alot i would recommend a 60 series, the 40 can honestly get pretty annoying.

I used one but it wasn't loud enough for my taste, so I welded my own y pipe from the secondary cats and went staight all the way back. I sounds bad @$$!

If you go to the FLowmaster web site they have audio clips of what the muffler sounds like under the perfect setup. The 40's are alot more of a throaty sound and can get loud. But if its sound you want with some mpg improvement the 40's are the way to go.

I did this exact same thing on mine. I know that you have the sohc and I have the ohv 4.0, but I never noticed any mpg or power improvements. As for noise, it is a lot louder than stock. But I like it.

+1 for the 40 series

Original 40

I replaced the pipe with 2.5", sounds good
