1) yes, im aware im starting ANOTHER exhaust thread :p

2) yes, i tried a search, but "70" is only 2 characters and it wouldnt let me (i even poked around some general "flowmaster" threads.)

3) anyone got one of these? they make one for the explorer thats a dual inlet, single outlet. they even had some sound clips on their site (though, they were on a chevy pickup with a 350 in it.) i think i might like this one. it sounds cool outside, but its pretty quiet inside. the only thing that im concerned about is that the single outlet is 3" - that might be too big, heh. im sure its designed like that, but what about torque loss? and noise? etc?

The muffler shop can reduce the opening to any size you want. I have 2 1/4 comming out and seem to have no low end loss of power. It is noticiably louder than stock at low speeds. I dont really hear it at highway speeds. I did get the heat shield for it also as they said it reduces the interior sound.

3" tails....

I tried the 3 " pipes and HATED them! Power was OK but the noise was brutal. It had the most annoying drone at cruising speeds. I tried to get used to it but I really couldn't. The sound wasn't a nice powerful drone, more a pitchy type sound.
Anyway, I would stay away from the 3" and go with a 2.5" tail pipe.
In the end I removed the whole set up and put the stock muffler back with 2.5 " pipes and the sound was way better. I know there is a technical reason for the 3' being too big for the sohc but that isn't my alley.
As for mufflers, dynomax makes some good ones for the config we need (2 in 1 out). The super turbo is reasonably prices to boot. They also do a whole cat back boly on set up for sohc explorers (using 2.5 pipes). Check out their web site...it has good sound clips!

ps...they have a 20$ rebate on now!

If you are set on getting a Flowmaster then get a Delta Flow. If not then just get a Borla. They make the best sounding, and best quality, exhaust; period. Oh yeah, I actually had a Flowmaster exhaust with dual pipes on a 98 Sport SOHC, and the drone was horrible and it was very loud. Flowmasters resonate too much. Just get the Borla, you won't be dissapointed

yeah, theyll put a reducer on it, but i dont know how confident i am in a reducer. is it a lot louder at low speeds, or just a little louder and cooler sounding?
