Ok this may sound a little weird but i was going to install a Flowmaster catback on a 97 SOHC today but when we opend up the box the 50 series muffler was only a single in single out where as the factory muffler is a dual in single out.....

The box say's 97-98 V6 Engines 2-4dr Models and the part store guy's say that it will fit but i would like to know how the hell thats supposed to work.

yeah i think its misleading but the one you bought is for the OHV. I dont see anything about SOHC. I would return it and buy a muffler that dual in/ single out and get piping bent for it customly.

Most places that list the mufflers for the 2nd gens don't know that the SOHC has dual inlet. Even Flowmaster's site only gives a single in/out muffler. I believe the correct model is 524553 (muffler only). Dual 2.25 inlet and single 3" out. The outlet can be reduced for smaller pipes. I'm running a single 2 1/2" pipe that was custom bent. I purchased the muffler from Summitracing.com ($98 shipped) and had it installed custom for $150 for a grand total of $248. I haven't seen any kits for the SOHC yet though.

well i know gibson lists a dual in single out kit for second gen explorers...

i am rather dissapointed in flowmaster i would think they would know better then to slap a one size fit's all sticker on the box :nono:
the reason for buying the flowmaster in my mind was to avoid the hassle of running around finding pieces and i was told by a few people on this site that there product was easy to install and 100% compleat guess that is not very accurate for the SOHC.... hope others can learn from this while shopping for there kit.
