I'm getting ready to have duals put on my Sport SOHC. The local muffler shop has flowmasters but I wanted to know if there is a better sounding muffler to you guys. I don't really want the loudest pipes in town, just a nice rumble that increases with speed would be nice. Don't wanna sound like the endless ricers with their pootpipes sticking 2 feet past the bumpers. I did love the flowmasters I had on my 4.6 F150 though. Thanks...

I would like to go the route of duals on my Explorer, but looking at it while it was on the lift yesterday, there is virtually no room for duals. With the new rear indep sus it takes that out of the equation.

I've got a Flowmaster Delta 50 and it sounds great. They are really good mufflers.

By the way, here's a couple of pics dual exhausts. It's not the newer Explorer though, so I don't know how to get around the IRS.

How can I tell what series flowmasters they have...Ithink I'm going with the first pic because I don't wanna give up my spare tire, but the second setup looks sweet...

I've already given up my spare (actually it used to ride up top, but now rides inside with me), since the 33 wouldn't fit underneath. If you can, the second option is the better one if you have a V8. If you only have a V6, the first pic is hte way to go. Maybe even a single in dual out, depending on what engine.

I have the ForceII Flowmaster setup on my explorer and it isnt too loud but has a nice tone. not to mention the power gains are surprising! obviously you have a newer style than i do, but i love my flowmaster, and i'm sure they make quality products for your x

Which would be best for a quicker and higher revving SOHC V6?

Flowmaster says the 50 series offers as much "performance" as the 40 series, with the 50 being the quieter of the two. Non-delta versions are louder than delta versions. The 50 Delta sounds nice to me.

Today, I was thinking about this, and I was planning to do it just like the first pic. I had my heart set on a Gibson, had one on my Ranger, and loved it. But I can find a Gibson made with the dual inlet muffler. :( Anyone know if it's made?

How did they run the pipe on the drivers side in the second pic? I want to do this to my X. My plan is to mount the spare in the passenger compartment in the back. and when I need to have the space inside I'll mount it on top. But how did they run the drivers side over the axle?

Here is one more pic of that setup.

Try looking though my Elite gallery for setup pics. I have a similar setup to the first pic.

Which year about we talking about here? 1999 Sport SOHC, right? What's this about an IRS?

50 Series SUV, is the non-delta and sounds great. You'll have to find a good shop to get them to bend it around on the passenger side. Not all places are willing to do it because it is rather cramped though possible. I have a good deal of pictures of on my computer that I stole from various people when I was trying to get a shop to do my duals (actually settled on a single exit because of price). Every Flowmaster muffler is stamped with the part number in it. It's not always the cheapest for the shop to get the muffler for you. I was quoted around $250 for a Flowmaster muffler (the guy was on crack).

The newer Sports will sound just like the older ones with the same engine with 40 series.

The Force II doesn't come in a dual inlet so for the 2nd gen sports that won't exactly work.

I could send pictures, but can't post them without going through a lot of trouble. If you want some pictures of routing let me know and I'll e-mail them to you. You can PM or e-mail me (dishdog2@aol.com) with you e-mail address if you want them.

Otherwise, I just searched "dual exhaust pictures" and looked through a million different threads to find the ones I have.

My friend just got the 40 series (just the muffler) and it sounds pretty nice, im gonna go to the same place and get 40 series, they sound kinda like a 5.0's exaust, not too loud but a good nice tone, how far up would i have to go to get a performance difference? headers? or just cats?

Get an intake if you haven't gotten one already. That's what you need to match with an exhaust to start. I ran a straightpipe and K&N drop-in in a '93 EB and beat my friends 1992 Sport. Cats and headers should be near the end of the additions if at all.

I mean't how far back would i have to go for the exhaust, headers or cats. in order to notice a performance difference.

Did they run it down the drivers side from the manifold? Isn't the gas tank on that side?
