Recently I have notice a smell coming from my car(96 Explorer 4x4 EFI) as i drive from school and work( about 20 mins) and also the temp guage changing. Didnt really think much of it at the time, however today i took it out and when i parked it i noticed it was steeming on the right side and also the temp gauge was going from mid temp to lower cool. I popped the hood and saw it was coming from the edge of the Valve cover. The edge looks wet and it seems like oil or maybe coolant. I have done some research and saw the same thing with the temp but no one with the valve cover problem. Possibly they are unrelated. So i am kinda stuck and hope you can help. Thanks in Advance.

First, check your water and fluid levels. If it was coming from the passenger side by the firewall, could be a heater hose.

All the fluids seem to be at good levels and i havent noticed big drops in the level. It is on the driver side up near the fire wall.

Just another add on to this, I could not figure out what was leaking but for the most part i could tell it was gaskets, so i started taking off the the intake manifold and raplacing as many gaskets and seals as i could. I wanted to replace the lower intake manifold gasket(the one under the fuel rail) as i was working on breaking the seal and trying to get that apart it came off one of the injectors and fuel started coming out. Now i havent worked on very many cars and i am only 17 so i panic and quick put it back over top not knowing how much fuel would come spilling out. So my question is did i panic to fast and just a little fuel will come out on each injector or is there a step i missed. Thanks.

There is some pressure built up in the fuel lines..normally you would relieve the pressure from the little schrader valve on the left side. Make sure you check all o rings on the injectors before reassembly..top and bottom....cheap to replace!

disconnect the battery so you don't get a spark.....

okay.. thats where i went wrongs. So would i just turn that blue blue cap to releive the pressure and then i shouldnt have that problem.

Cap covers valve..like a bike tire valve..remove cap push valve..should already be relieved since you opened up the rail..there will be fuel leak for what is in rail.

Did you disconnect the stainless steel line on manifold (Front left)? Make sure to use 2 wrenches. One on top one on bottom...

okay. Yeah thats it. No i hadnt removed those lines yet. That will be after school tomorrow. Thanks for your help.
