Well I called Burt Ford here south of Denver and got a qote for the following.

Tranny Flush--$150:eek:

Transfer Case Fluid Change---$60:rolleyes:

Radiator--$95:(

Does this seem a bit STEEP! to anyone else? Or am I spoiled by doing maintainance myself, er just Cheap?

I think that I am going to look around for a better price and possibly a good small Ma and Pa shop...

Whacha think?

tell you what I'll do it for half that much!!!

No seriously that is way too much....

The tranny flush you will pay some $$$ for because there is a special machine they hook it up to backflush the torque converter and throttle body.

I would do the cooling system, differentials, and x case yourself, it;s pretty darn easy.

Let me know if you need some help, since you are in Denver we may be able to help you out or point you to somebody who will do it for 1/2 that. A Ford dealer is about the last place in the world to have general maintenence like that done.......

Call these guys, they are AWESOME people and work only on Fords and Jeeps.

Marcy's Automotive - Conifer, CO

worth the drive.....

How does a tranny flush do anything for the TB? Am I missing something here?

The proces seem high to me. But, I never use a dealer; you can find a better deal.

Good luck.....

The throttle body I am refering to is in the transmission, it is completely different from your throttle body on the intake. The throttle body in the tranny is that little metal sucker that looks like a jigsaw puzzle of metal, it's what you see when you drop your pan.

The good thing about having the tranny flushed is that the tiny pieces of metal and deposits get stuck in the passeges in the throttle body and over time can actually change the hydraulic pressure and clog the passeges.

Any defenition beyond that is beyond my understanding of how the auto works, I watched my A4LD being rebuilt and man I tell you that is one crazy puzzle to piece together.....

410,
Ill check into Macys.

I have heard mixed bags on the actual tranny "flush", sometimes causing it to knock things loose and the like.

Also I have the secondary filter which I am sure Ford would be absolutely preplexed with when filling the trans.

Do you think that Macy's would weld on a drain plug on my tranny pan?

I keep debating on doing it myself and using Synth. but these above things I have never done. I wouldn't even know where to take the old anti-freeze (preferably not the drain sewer) LOL!

410 Fortune, don't you mean the valve body? I've never heard of a throttle body in a tranny before.

hey I think you are right! Valve body or is it Throttle body? I'll call my tranny guy and ask him....

Thats Marcy's auto not Macy's.

I'm sure Marcy's could weld in a drain plug for you , I would call them. I dont know if they can do the backflush on the auto tranny (might not have the machine) Joe Dietz has his done at the Grease Monkey on Bellview and Pierce, like $85 I think....

The throttle body in an engine is on the upper intake, but I think you meant to type Transmission not engine. Now we are really confusing people.......

Places recycle antifreeze, just like oil you just gotta ask around....

I would do all the fluids yourself, have either Marcy's auto or my tranny guy weld in your drain plug. I dont think they even drop the pan to do that back flush though.....You can get another tranny pan from a junk yard and swap them out, or take the pan and have the plug installed while the fluid/filter is being changed.

What kind of external tranny filter did you install?

Just got off the horn with Marcy's and the owner was extremely helpful. He could do it all for about $125 less than Ford (scam-artists). Although I am a working STIFF and they are not open on weekends...DANG! I told him I would rather take it to someone I can trust other than leaving it in the hands of a moron at Ford. He found that pretty funny. Also they are in good standing with the BBB... :)

I think I'll just tackle it all myself. Why else would I have spent so much on tools and jacks...LOL..

It is just a matter of making the time. And getting an order in for Amsoil.

So has anyone had a problem with the Transfer Case acting up with Synthetic fluid??? Only because my bud with a 97 Ranger put it in his Transfer case and it slowly Quit working all together. Then he switched back to Mercon and it came back to life and has worked fine since. (So do I get Mercon or Amsoil??)

I run Mobil One synth ATF in my tranny and T case.
The differentials get Mobil One synth gear lube.

No problems to date, in fact I gained MPG.

Yeah Marcy's auto kicks butt!!! If you ever need major repairs on the drivetrain call them......

So no probs with Synth.....The the question is which is the best deal. Opinions aside.

How much is the Mobil1 vs. Amsoil (with our discount)??

Yikes Mobil is expensive!!!!

Amsoil I stay away from, my own opinion after talking with some of mymechanic friends, seems they were great when they first came out, then the quality went downhill......remember just my 02...I know people who love it!!

I use Mobil one simply because it is the best damn brand oil, filter, and lube I have ever tried and you can get it anywhere.

The synth ATF is pricey and it takes about 10 quarts to fill my tranny....

Yup, all I use for motor oil is Mobil1 as well as filters on both engine and secondary trans filter, which as you asked earlier is Perma Cool auxiliary transmission filter.

I have just purchased Amsoil for the diffs at 90W140 or so. I think that should be good. eh??

So either, just up to personal opinion...

??) [/B]

Contact AgExplorer for a special deal on Amsoil products. He is a good guy.

Good luck....
