I just pulled the motor out and apart on my 91 Xlt. I didn't mark the alignment of the crank to the flexplate (auto) or the alignment of the torque converter to the flexplate. I read the manual after, and discovered I was supposed to do this. Does any one know if this is essential for proper balance? Any idea how I should line up these parts? Thanks.

I found a solution. Took the flywheel to the machine shop. They put it on there balance machine and checked the flywheel in all six positions to get the best balance. They said the flywheel to torque converter alignment does not matter. The hayes manual has several errors. It also say the rod bolts on my 91 are torque to yield but ford didnt make this change until 1996.

For any one thats interested. The flywheel alignment to the crank or the torque converter does not matter. When i picked up my parts from the machine shop the machinist said that it makes no difference and to ignore the manual. I got my engine back together and in my explorer and it works great.
